Kindergarten Transition to School Program

At Dulwich Hill Public School we understand that a child’s first year at school is an important one,  and we work closely with families, local pre-schools and child care centres to ensure a smooth transition to school.

We offer a series of orientation and transition to school events for parents and children in preparation for starting school.

School Information Evening

Come and see what makes our school special at our Information evening on Wednesday 24th July 2019, from 5.30pm.

The Information evening will include small group tours of the kindergarten classrooms by some of our wonderful student leaders, a short information session and time for questions. We hope to give you some basic information about the wonderful features of Dulwich Hill Public School and it’s community.

Our school Principal, Ms Linda Wickham or a member of the school executive will facilitate tours of the school and give you a snapshot of our learning spaces and opportunities for students.

Tour dates for 2019:
Wednesday 7th August 2019  – 9.30am
Friday 16th August 2019 – 2.40pm

Please call Laura or Francesca on (02) 9559 2699 book a tour.

Kindergarten Orientation

Kindy Orientation is designed to inform you about the school curriculum and programs, and provide an opportunity to ask questions and meet some of the staff who will be working with your child. We will provide information about upcoming Kindergarten transition events, share a snapshot of learning in the Kindergarten classroom and tips about how to prepare your child for school. Parents can meet members of the school community including the P&C, canteen and uniform shop coordinators, Camp Australia. A welcome pack is provided at the session, which includes information about the school.

While parents are at the information session students will be in the Kindergarten classrooms participating in typical Kindergarten learning experiences and becoming familiar with the school environment.

Kindergarten Transition and Information Sessions

Two transition sessions are held for parents and students during Term 4. During the transition sessions children will participate in classroom activities prepared by the Kindergarten teachers. Parents are invited to meet other new and existing parents at an informal morning tea in the school grounds.

KIndergarten Orientation – Friday 25th October
Kindergarten Transition Days – Friday 8th November and Friday 22nd November

Kindergarten Information Session

An information session is held in Term 1  for parents of enrolled Kindergarten students. This session covers new information related to daily Kindergarten routines, including communication, homework, crunch and sip and making payments.

Best Start Literacy and Numeracy Assessment

The Best Start Literacy and Numeracy assessment occurs at the beginning of Term 1 before students begin Kindergarten. It helps teachers identify the knowledge and skills that each child brings to school. Find more information about Best Start here.
